After having breakfast with the Swimmers again ;) we headed out to see if we could see some of the Women’s Time Trial .We had watched the start on the TV and had waited for the rain to ease. We must have just missed the last ones going through Glasgow Green but we were able to watch the Medal ceremony.Lots of smiles when Dutch rider Ellen Van Dijk and fellow country woman ,Anna Van der Breggen and German rider Trixi Worrack received their medals and Bonnie the seal mascot.
A quick look at the plants and downstairs in the Peoples Palace and then we made our way up the hills to Glasgow Cathedral , lovely and sunny by now so we sat on the bench outside for a while. An impressive cathedral with wonderful stained glass windows. There was a Lego exhibition in the Crypt. Featuring the seven wonders of the world all made out of the tiny plastic bricks.
We moved on towards George Square to watch the men’s time trial .Very exciting ! We waited on a corner , hearing the whistles coming from further up the road we knew they were on their way (The whistles were a warning to stop people crossing ) .The car went past saying there was just a few minutes before the first rider and then in a flash the cyclist had whizzed by charging down the hill at a very high speed. Then another and a few more including one of the British men.The Dutchman had to wear a Anna Van Dijks spare racing ski suit as his suitcase went missing at the airport. He did tweet the day before that he may have to race in the nude.
It was then time to catch the train to Tollcross to see the Swimming. I stayed outside while Mike went to get the tickets. The heavens opened and it was poring with rain.Mike came out - no trains because of an electrical failure. There were lots of roads closed, bus routes had been changed so the only thing we could do was to hopefully get a Hampden cab from outside Jury’s Inn. We booked one on the app and then it was a quick dash through the rain back to where we started.
Arrived in sunshine in plenty of time. Found our seats and watched the swimmers warming up.lots of exciting races to watch including Adam Peaty in the 50 metres breast stroke. The Centre was filled with everyone shouting Adam on to win gold ).We watched the medal ceremony and sang the National Anthem as the Union Jack was raised. Great to see members of Girl Guiding helping with the flags.
A cab back and luckily no delays even though Celtic were playing at home.
We had time to get a burger and watched some of The Shee in George Square.Mike then had a text through to say our train home had been cancelled. So off to the station to see what was happening, a signal fault now causing the cancellation.
In the end we had to wait over an hour for a train to Perth and then get a taxi home all paid for by ScotRail Eventually got home at about 12.30, feeling shattered.
