Vintage
Well, my Grampa is the last person in our family to have maintained a 'proper' garden: flowers - roses, chrysanthemums... - soft fruit, rhubarb, brassicas, potatoes etc surrounding a neat square lawn.
He died in 1969, before i was old enough to understand the value of what he did and what he could teach us.
I'm not sure he'd have been particularly impressed with my poorly-raised potato crop, but it was quite satisfying digging it up, nonetheless.
If March 2019 is to herald the issues with supply chains and import costs that many are now predicting, those of us with gardens would probably be well-advised to get to grips with the art of old-fashioned (vintage) productive gardening.
Extra: more vintage - one of the few family businesses left in the city centre, Robertson's of Castle St was established around 80 years ago.
