Around Dovedale

This was meant to be the best day of the weekend so we set out for a walk to make the most of it. 

We had a vague idea of where in mind, but did make up parts of the route as we went along. We started from Ilam Hall near Dovedale. But we did avoid the popular Dovedale route. We did manage to avoid the crowds in this way until we got to the venue for the Manifold Show, just above the village of Ilam. But it was good to see such a tradition still live and well in the area.

One place we had to avoid for today and the forthcoming days was The Roaches just outside Leek. It's a real favourite walking spot of mine but since Thursday has been on fire. The woods below the ridge and the moor above have been burning for several days with no sign of stopping at present. Many firefighters are being called in from the surrounding counties to try and get it under control.
