my kitchen alterations continue - finding my architect's plans a little unfathomable, so I hope the builder is Ok with my slightly less technical specifications like pointing and shrugging.  
Years ago, my cousin (an offshore instrument technician) introduced me to their foolproof system of measurement terms which included "side to sideness", "back to frontness" and "up and downness".  I have found these invaluable over the years :-))
