Central School (Aberdeen Academy)

I don't know the building in the photograph by either of its previous names as shown above. To me it has always been part of the Academy Shopping Centre.

When opened in 1905 this was the Central School, which later became Aberdeen Academy. The school closed in1969, and it the building became a shopping centre. An historical picture of the school and its history can be found here, then doing a search for Central School. Externally there is almost no difference between the photograph I took today and the picture in the archives.

I may be wrong, but to me this does not seem to be one of the more successful shopping precincts in Aberdeen, possibly because it is too close to two other larger shopping precincts. Also it has very few shops, though there are a number of restaurants, bars and coffee bars.

The day has been very overcast, no sign of the sun today, and it seems to be quite gusty at the time of posting.
