Cob of the Maize
Unfortunately not nice for humans to eat! We did once think of planting edible sweetcorn around the perimeter of the field, may be we will one day and see what happens! The whole maize plant will be harvested and be completely minced up and put in the silage pit for winter feed. This field was pushed around by the wind, it is usually the badgers, and the planting conditions were not the best in the beginning but the cobs are beginning to grow large now. We will harvest them in the autumn. Extra photos: the wild and the cultivated; and, the farm track along the maize field.
T has J staying from Australia (T once worked for J on his farm near Perth) and he has been helping with the trailers full of oats today and we have finished the harvest except for the linseed. All the straw has been baled up and the combine put under cover for the rain.
