Cladin a Chladd

Cladin a Chladd ~ Cladding and Burial

Rhwng 2010 a 2012 cafodd Theatr y Sherman ei adnewyddu gan gynnwys gorchuddio ei waliau ym metal.  Mae'n un ffordd, rydw i'n meddwl, i wella ymddangosiad yr adeilad (heb ei ddymchwel).  Roeddwn i'm meddwl am y tebygrwydd rhwng 'cladding' yn Saesneg a 'cladd' yn Gymraeg.  Dydw i ddim yn meddwl bod perthynas rhwng y ddau air, cyd-ddigwyddiad efallai, ond rydw i'n hoffi meddwl bod 'cladding' un ffordd i 'claddu' pensaernïaeth wael.

Between 2010 and 2012 the Sherman Theater was refurbished, including covering its walls in metal. It is one way, I think, to improve the appearance of the building (without demolishing it). I was thinking about the similarities between 'cladding' in English and 'cladd' ('bury') in Welsh. I don't think that there is a relationship between the two words, perhaps a coincidence, but I like to think that 'cladding' is one way to 'bury' poor architecture.
