Stair Hole, at West Lulworth, Dorset

An arduous walk of perhaps two hours brings you from Flowers Barrow - see blip of 10th August - past Lulworth Cove to Stair Hole.  Here it is the much slower erosion of limestone (Purbeck and Portland rocks).

In the distance the Island of Portland can be seen.  Many millions of years ago the rock seen here was simply part of a mountain (anticline) which stretched from here to Portland.
