That's Life!

Truth In Advertising . . .

Ah, the good old days; when men went off to fight for the empire, women stayed home to take care of the mansion and beat the servants, and the kids looked forward to their Sunday evening treat - Crosse & Blackwel';s Superior Jelly, available in all the popular flavours.

Unlike today, the manufacturers weren't afraid to let their little customers know exactly where the jelly came from; it's there in black and white right at the top of their ad in this 1888 issue of the Illustrated London News - CALVES' FEET (see larger image here)

Now I'm wondering: what was in the cheaper, non-Superior, jelly? Yummy, can't wait to try some - I'll try the vegetarian version, please . . .
