Rosebud-d-d-d

Citizen Kane would be happy if he walked into Wilkie's Bay Books & Collectibles emporium, Georgetown's biggest and best used book store. Kane managed to lose two sledges in his lifetime - the second 'Rosebud' going up in flames as he died at the end of the movie. Well, no sweat, Mr Kane, Wilkie's got a couple of 'em down in the basement; all ya gotta do is change the name on the runners . . .

It's interesting to see the growing number of shops selling secondhand household junk and used clothing, along with dollar stores (a huge new one opened last night) and payday loan shops.

Seems that, despite what our leaders keep telling us, the recession is here to stay - low wages, huge mortgages, two or more jobs needed to pay the bills, the dismantling of social services, and ever-rising prices seem to be the way of the future.

Wonder what happened to that Brave New World we were promised 40 years ago?
