Lines of vines

I regularly pass lots of vineyards on my morning bike rides in the Medoc. 

Today there was a big machine running over them which straddles the vines and seems to tidy them up as though they were hedges. (I'm not sure what the purpose of this is.) I would guess that the juicy black grapes on them will be harvested in a month or so and turned into Medoc wine.
