Lanterns

Have quite a lot on today and working from home. Samuel did his first solo performance at the school show this afternoon - Steve Earle's Someday. He was great, but what got me was how well received he was by his peers. It was far from the sort of music they'd be familiar with, but I guess a good song and a good performance shine in whatever context you put them.

It's a nice day today. The sky was great earlier on so I nipped out into the garden hoping for an epic cloudscape but settled instead for this cluster of lantern-shaped buds that are defying the cold and outliving all the other blooming plants we have.
