Quod oculus meus videt

A drift of Swans

Amazing how quickly light conditions changed this morning, from not being able to see a single cloud in the sky at 6:00 am to cloud enveloping most of the sky 45 minutes later.  I was intent on capturing the early sunlight but spied this family of swans serenely gliding up the canal.  It needed every millimetre of the 750 available to get this shot, plus a little bit of cropping.  Later (see extra) I got a bit closer to them as the cygnets tried to shake off their chick feathers.

I've been reading with interest the various commentaries on the internet after Nikon introduced a new mirrorless system.  I used their first attempt, the 1 series and really liked the compact form and ease in carrying the kit.  Sadly, it did not prove a commercial success, despite some of the innovative features.  This time they have brought out direct competition to the Sony A7 system.  Before anyone has had a chance to use the cameras in anger, many seem to be criticising the specifications. My main concern is the exponential rise in cost of new cameras.  While I appreciate there is more technology in a mirrorless camera the flagship model, which has a similar size sensor to the Nikon D850, will cost you more.  If Nikon want people to adopt this new system, you'd have thought they would make the pricing more attractive.  Particularly as they currently only have 3 lenses that work with it without an adapter.
