Biscay deep sea trenches

We set off back up the Bay of Biscay this morning, where the 4000 metre sea floor shelves up steeply towards the land. This causes an upwelling of nutrients and food, and the oceanic whales gather here to feed.
We had some wonderful close up views of Fin Whales, and lots of the magnificent Great Shearwater. A very long day of surveying, but worth every aching joint!
Today's extra is the lovely Map butterfly we saw in Spain, and a fine slick of Fin Whale poo!
