Villages old and new

Moving on day. Morning in the pretty village of Potes where cow themed souvenirs abound. Then over the Puerto de San Glorio in swirling cloud and suddenly descending into another narrow 'desfile' - this one of conglomerate rock for a change.

I've stopped at Riano still up high where the campsite has an amazing view over the hydropower reservoir. It took over 2 decades to construct amidst much protest, with the people of 9 villages forcibly evicted by the military. And that was the 1980s socialists, not Franco.

So after a picnic on my grass terrace I spent the afternoon contemplating this sad history and exploring the modern settlement with its historic remnants. The highlight is a Romanesque church rescued and reconstructed complete with stunning wall paintings - here be dragons.
