Friends, Finally.

Today was my best day in Le Puy so far, no doubt about it.

In the morning I headed to the market to stock up on vegetable and fruit, I feel like I haven't eaten anything healthy in a very long while! I happened to bump into Anglophones, whilst milling around, who were with one of the teacher's from Shadi's school. He invited us all for coffee in a cafe and we sat outside, chatting in a strange mix of English and French which was so cool. In the afternoon, we had planned to visit a big charity shop called Emmaus but we discovered it was quite a walk away, and up a big hill, so the lovely primary school teacher (whose name I never quite grasped) offered to drive us all. After popping home for a quick lunch of olive bread and caramel and chocolate tart (yes, I caved into the patisserie on the way home) we all met up and drove to the shop. Wow was it busy! I managed to find a cool scarf (50 centimes) and 11 books for 1 euro; I was, as anyone who knows how much I like a bargain will understand, incredibly content!

After this, we headed over to the house of some French friends of Shadi and Rebekah for crepes. It was really nice to finally be hanging out with people my own age and to be speaking french with people who weren't judging us. Unfortunately, everyone here seems to think that American is infinitely cooler than England so think I'll have to stick with my newly aquired friends and borrow their cool accents to make more friends.

In the evening we headed to a traditional ball to which Hati had been invited by Maths Mark, a teacher from her school. I wasn't sure what to expect but I had lots of fun being spun around by old French men and the occasional woman. Imagine a barn dance but where everyone already knows the dances. Mark told me I danced very well, and I was disproportionally proud of this fact. Such a lovely evening and everyone was welcoming. Hoping to go to another one next week!
