Autumn must be in the air...I've been cleaning the front room ready for when we spend our evenings in there, with the curtains drawn and woodburning stove lit. I opened the stove to clear out any ash and found not only a HUGE spider but also this dead bat, which must have flown down the chimney and been trapped in there. (Next year I will leave the stove doors open during the summer).

I think it's a pipistrelle, the commonest UK bat. You can see some lovely photos of all the other kinds HERE.
