Cinema Paradiso
This evening we had a picnic on our balcony and watched the sun go down over the hills and sea. All the lumps and bumps of the ridge ahead of us silhouetted against the pink sky. Silence fell as the stars appeared and we sat and looked up at Venus and Jupiter shining brightly in the sky above. I felt a long way from the built up busy and noisy spaces of home.
Later we walked to the village to return to the open air cinema (pictured). This time we watched ‘Call Me B Your Name’. A tale of a teenage boy who falls for a male intern to their Italian home. Set in the Italian countryside during a hot summer, and spoken in English, French and Italian it was a beautiful film to watch and to listen to. I thought the boy who played Elliot acted wonderfully and the speech by the father at the end very moving. Some people in the audience applauded as the credits began to roll.
As we walked home we agreed it had been a special day.
