The Road of the Kings
We decided to take a run to Glen Lonan this afternoon to harvest (yet more) runner beans from the polytunnel and dig the rest of the spuds. For a change we went the other way - down to Kilmore and through Glen Lonan from the south. It's actually shorter in distance, but very much slower in time.
I've always loved Glen Lonan. When we lived at Arduaine and were coming home from Edinburgh we would sometimes come through the glen from Taynuilt for a change, missing out Oban. Today the sun was shining intermittently and I stopped to take a picture of the famous standing stone, Clach na Carraig, said to mark the grave of Diarmid, a mythical figure from folklore. Glen Lonan was once known as the Road of the Kings, as part of the route taken by the funeral processions of Scotland’s monarchs on their last journey to the island of Iona.
