Natural Patterns

I headed out to shoot a small stream near my house and was hoping to get a nice perspective shot. However, things did not turn out as planned. I am still not sure if the issue was technique, composition or just that it is not a great subject.

The good news was that as I was shooting, I saw these very cool patterns of frozen ice. It always intrigues me that mother nature forms these odd ice patterns. Why? I took a bunch of different shots and you can see a close-up here. I chose this shot because I wanted highlight the size of the pattern vs the small detail in the linked picture.
