BBC #12

This week it was my turn to pick a subject and so I have chosen the dear oId Blackheath Community Centre as our Blackheath Blippers' Challenge. The Community Centre shares a lot in common with the Ivanhoe Hotel in that they are both shabby but comfortable old buildings where the townsfolk get to meet and share.

Parts of the building are more than 100 years old now (which in an Australian context, is really quite old) "Unveiled plaques" at various points range from 1906 to 1956 but in spite of that and various sectional grumbles, the old place muddles through pretty well and is nicely able to host a wide range of community activities.

There's a large hall, a small hall, a branch of the municipal library and the local BANC (i.e. Blackheath Area Neighbourhood Centre). One of its saving graces is the fact that this rambling old place nestles graciously within the genuinely beautiful municipal gardens.
