A lot going on

No time to set up another drips blip I'm afraid, so a study of this candle flame brings on the old sense of wonder and incredulity.

The oxygen being drawn into the reaction; heat released and the hot waste gases being forced upward by their expansion and turbulance generated, nitrogen being a bi-stander. The change of state from solid to liquid of the wax, then drawn in by capillarity to the wick. The pooling of the liquid in the melt, awaiting consumption by combustion.

The conversion of the stored chemical bond-energy to light rays, of differing wavelengths, which travel ridiculously fast to the retina, the route taken, and their detection being another story.....

So many candles, so little appreciation.
