That's what I noticed most today on my wet walk - the swallows and martins whizzing around over the fields, getting ready to leave for warmer climes...

...as am I, but not quite yet, as I have plenty to do this week before I go. One of the nicer tasks on my to do list is to finish "Far From the Madding Crowd". It's one of my favourite books, mainly because of the descriptions of Nature and of the passing seasons. 

When I got it down from the shelf, this bookmark fell out. I was in the middle of reading the book to Sarah years ago but we never finished it. One of those "pie crust promises" which I never kept...

Drumming tonight - we are practising to play on Saturday at Dumfries' first-ever Pride.
