A spider and a tablet.

I was in the University Zoology Museum this morning and photographed one of my favourite specimens, a fine piece of 19th century taxidermy involving a Goliath bird-eating tarantula Theraphosa blondi  that has just caught a humming bird.
Tarantulas are hunters, they don't build webs, but instead they sneak up on their prey, pounce and inflict a fatal bite with their venomous fangs. The Goliath tarantula is the biggest spider in the world and can grow to the size of a dinner plate. It lives in the rain-forests of northern South America.

I think that I have probably now blipped enough spiders for this year; I do hope that the arachnophobes among you may eventually recover!

On a different matter, my faithful old iPad died yesterday morning. I decided that the time had arrived for a new one and placed an order with Apple at 14.00h. It arrived, suitably engraved with my name,  from deepest England at 09.30h this morning. All without leaving the house; little wonder that  the High Street is in crisis!
