A canal collage
Friday
August 24
This morning we took Laura to Manchester airport, for her return flight to Kuwait. She’s back to work on Sunday (the first day of the working week in that part of the world), though the children don’t come in for another week.
When we got back, Roger had a little job to the (big) fish pond to do down at his sister’s, so I got on with washing some of the many sheets used while family were visiting, so Janet didn’t have quite so much to come back to! Roger’s (little) job turned into a bit bigger one, as something broke, so he had to get hold of Janet and John in Belgium for advice, and then contact the pond supply company and arrange for someone to come out, which fortunately they were able to do later in the afternoon. Once all was sorted, we were able to get out to the canal for a walk. It was overcast and drizzling when we started, but it improved as we walked, and some patches of blue sky appeared. We stopped to watch a narrow boat come through the lock, and Roger got talking to the guy opening the gates and gave him a hand as they chatted. They were on their way to Chester for a long weekend, in their own boat.
