Stirling
Today many of our group were going back home so we all headed for a quick visit to the nearby Doune Castle which was built in the late 1300s. A small castle known for its role in the Monty Python and the Holy Grail film. I was most impressed with the kitchen and its serving hatches, the size of the enormous oven and the tool marks made by sharpening knives on an area of wall by the window, see extra.
We then decided to explore Stirling with its large Castle, an impressive medieval Church with gravestones adjacent the Hospital and Castle. At the edge of this area is an old street facade which I decided to use for the blip for today.
We then headed back to a local pub where we watched the Big Onion competition. They had a local farmers market auctioneer who sold each of the onions to the highest bidder, the money raised going to a local charity. Great fun although not everything went to plan as water was spotted leaking through the wooden beams above the bar, but this didn't stop the auction which was in full swing by then. It was then followed by a two course meal back at our hosts farmhouse.
Just trying to catch up on all my blips. Sorry for a lack of comments at the moment.
