Hint of Autumn

A cloudy and cooler day, with showers of rain. It was ideal weather for our cycle ride to the village we visited yesterday. This time we wanted to explore it rather than visit the dentist!

Beyond the main square we found various churches, the school, and bakeries. The streets were cobbled and narrow - many too narrow for cars. They twisted and turned, went up hill and downhill and where lined with beautiful stone houses. Some houses were quite neglected and empty (like this one pictured), others were carefully maintained with painted shutters and pots of flowers and herbs on the doorstep.

We chatted about how it might be to live here and have a more simple life, experiencing the seasons, growing and cooking our food and enjoying walks by the sea and along the hill tracks.

After our wander we stopped for a drink at a cafe in the square. Unfortunately on the way back my bike got a puncture. Andy came to my rescue and swiftly changed the inner tube (I am not very good at doing this) and we returned in time for lunch where we discussed that it might be fun and useful (!) do a bicycle maintenance course together.

Aside from this, Andy sailed in the regatta this afternoon whilst I read. The cloudy and cooler weather today has been pleasant and interesting - it has changed the mood of the surrounding landscape and it is possible to feel a hint of Mediterranean autumn.

Wishing you all well.
