Era shift - time out
Because of the recent forest fires here and the real possibility of us having to evacuate, I packed all the trains away in early June - ready to leave. As the fires have gone, it gave me the opportunity now to shift my rolling stock from the diesel-steam transition period - late 50's to early 60's - to a modern fleet. A long time ago I decided to be a rubber era modeler and have both. And like us all, bought too much. But I like both eras so why not? The rivet counters will shriek but so be it. It is my world.
So the steam stayed packed and the heavy metal came out. Big locomotives, container trains, coal liners, Amtrak, etc. Not positive I like the juxtaposition of the new stuff with the 50-60 buildings, but it will be OK for awhile - just to run trains and do some switching. After a few months, the present day stuff goes away and the steam stuff comes out.
And - this gave me a break from figure painting. I am almost done with the station people. Need to touch up some goobers and paint hats and hair. But we are close. I left them on the spurs to paint so when I cut them off, I will need to paint hat and hair. Actually was fun to paint for short spurts.
