Savoir-faire
Started the beginning of last night thinking that I didn't have any classes...how wrong I was! Luckily the worried insomniac in me somehow checked my diary (normally I don't have class on a Monday, so I think I can be excused for thinking it was it was just a normal Monday!) otherwise I would have missed both the sixième INTER's class on their book, and the troisième INTER's presentations on the background to WWII.
The sixième class really are an absolute gem...every single one of them tries their utmost to join in and understand the lesson. But they're so small!! I know they are the youngest year in the school, but some of them are barely past my elbow height...and the smallest boy in the class has the biggest backpack I have ever seen. Sometimes you just have to laugh inwardly rather than cause offence. Adorable.
Was really glad that I remembered the troisième class for today, as they are the class I spend the most time with, and I could really see an improvement in their English pronunciation and syntax from the beginning of the year. I could tell that the student I was working with really had practised over the weekend as her pronunciation was almost perfect and she had almost memorised her text! Really nice when things work out the way you want them to.
Words I have learnt today:-
- Clearly - clairement
- Pace - rythme
- Caught my attention - capté l'attention
- Background - arrière-plan
Had a rather lovely afternoon catching up properly with Thomas, and after a quick present shop in FNAC, ended up spending over three hours in Café Latin slowly being joined by Becky, Claire, Jeff, and then Laura. Will freely admit that the conversation between Thomas and I was rather deep, the kind of conversation you have with someone after years of knowing them...but I guess when you're thrust into new situations and creating new friendships very quickly, the intimacy does come rather rapidly. After being confused by Thomas that the one drink we'd each had was "free" (I think he'd paid for them!) the group sans Thomas ended up going for pizza and more conversation.
Still trying to prepare things to do tomorrow at the language club...internet is being surprisingly difficult when I'm trying to download stuff!!
