Proboscidea fragrant - Unicorn Plant
According to the label beside this plant .....
The leaves, seed, and seed pod are edible. The soft immature seeds can be eaten raw, roasted or ground into a paste. The ripe seedpods as an ornament on willow baskets.
This plant which closely resembles the dreaded Himalayan Balsam was growing in the cactus arm of the Botanic Gardens glasshouse. It's a native of southwestern USA, from Texas to Mexico.
An afternoon of masterly inactivity as I watched the Davis Cup doubles match and as I sat biting my nails I thought of all the things I should be doing ..... there's always tomorrow!
