Never say Nevers again
Our walk today took us along the Loire via a footpath leading straight from the campsite gate. We walked along tarmac road until it petered out, then via a mud track checking all cracked and dry. The track passed beneath the Autoroute then ran alongside the road until we met the canal, returning to Nevers by a canal branch with a broad tarmac towpath lined with giant plane trees. There was a canal side bar and we were sorely tempted but saved by the fact that it was very full indeed.
The walking is a real plus point for this site and that, together with the fine dinner that we had in town last night, is reason enough to return here. Another reason is the pottery museum that I had hoped to visit this afternoon. Having already walked my little legs off and having had more than enough sun, we have deferred. A bit of a shame as they have a May 1968 exhibition on currently. Tomorrow they are closed and we are leaving on Tuesday morning. So, not this trip. The exhibition runs until December but the campsite closes in early November, making a revisit this year difficult. I have just had the idea to suggest that we stop for an extra night to facilitate a museum trip plus another dinner at last night's restaurant... Let me work on it...
For now, we sit in the shade of the plane trees, drinking a very good and nicely chilled Kir. It's not a bad life.
