To get on the bus that takes me to you
Sunday - we woke at 3.30 and then 4.30, and gave up and finally got up at 6.30.
We were itching to get going and text the kids and told them to MOVE IT.
We bimbled round to their hotel, literally round the corner, we found the Metro, bought our tickets, examined Scooters - kinda like Boris Bikes, but scooters which you activate with an App. And chased the kids some more.
Then they arrived and we set off into the town.
THen we looked for a bus and we couldn't find one, not one, not anywhere.
Then we found one - and climbed on board, only to get off again, and put on another one.
BUt we had a lovely tour, looked at Abe. He is a bit fantastic. There is nothing so fantastic as Abe in the flesh - i would love to get up and climb up on his lap. I'm sure he'd read me a story.
Then we walked the length of the pools, and all the way across the green bit, and looked at the Whitehouse and contemplated how close we were, and yet so far, and impotent.
And then we walked on more steps, and found a restaurant which specialised in Cigars, and 8 men sat outside and smoked the biggest cigars I have ever seen. (we were protected behind glass and air conditioning).
Then we walked more steps and found the Hirshorn Museum where I believed the Mueck to be... I said to the lady on the front door, "where is the Mueck? " and She looked blankly at me. "The Big Man" I said, "Oh, she nodded, "third floor, you can't miss him".
So while Boy chatted with a Robot, I ran for the escalators, and up two floors and then I found him. The Big Man (He is actually untitled, but big man suits him rather well). Mueck's sculptures are amazing. Amazing. I've looked at photos and read all about his making of them, but i missed the UK tour. oh wow, he was worth it. All the rubbish around him (well there were one or two other things which were worth a glance, but the Mueck was spectactular.
Then we ran for the Metro (i say ran, but we kinda hobbled - 18000 steps and 7 floors) - and got our Metro and when we arrived back at hotel, said goodbye to Gal and Boy for 5 Days till we see them in Asheville.
They had an eight hour drive to get back for Boy's work. We loved seeing them on arrival, but oh my, worrying about them driving through the night to get back....
(They did make it safe at 2.30am)
And we went back to hotel. I had a nap. Then we went for Chinese next door. Oh My Goodness.
It was Lush.
