I grew up near here but this is the first time I have walked around this  area.  A motorway now crosses much of the original 'beach'.  While a recreation area was always included in the plans it was only due to public demands that a much more extensive  area has been created.  A pedestrian bridge crosses the motorway and walking tracks provide pleasant views down the Manukau Harbour as well as the childrens play areas and dog walking spaces.  It is very pleasant.
