County!!
Fraser was playing for the county in the top ten competition today, one of the counties form the East withdrew late in the week and as such the draw for the competition was thrown into confusion. To try an avoid total confusion the decision was made to put together an inter-county select team to compete.
Some of the Renfrewshire players were drafted in but they were still two players short when I was asked if Mimi would be able to play. A quick phone call and a mad dash to get her and her bowls and she stepped in. She went onto the pairs, a surprise to say the least and I was gobsmacked when she was left to skip!!!
She is a great bowler but has never skipped and to go in at this level at all let alone with someone she has never met let alone played with was a huge ask. A shaky first few ends saw her and her partner slip behind but they eventually hit their road and weight and played very well for a good win against a very talented Dumbartonshire pairing
Her final game was against some of Fraser's teammates and in particular two age group internationalists I think her partner was overawed by the company he was keeping and was struggling Mimi, again skipping was composed and played very well. The skip she was playing against is Fraser's County skip and chatted away to Mimi during the game and it was obvious she was enjoying herself. They lost the game by 4 shots, which was a fabulous result given the calibre of the opposition and after Gavin came and spoke to me to say how well she had played and how she had really saved the game and kept it very close.
Her performance was noted by a lot of the guys and she enjoyed the day so all in all a good day out.
