Almost Heaven, West Virginia
They weren't kidding.
Driving through America is an eye opener. From large Gone with the Wind Style homes, to ranches, to trailers, to shacks. You pass them all - within yards. It's incomprehensible how such wealth can co-exist alongside such poverty.
Through the Sky Drive through the National Park of Shenandoah, there was none of that. There were mountains, hills, mountains, hills, trees, mountains, waterfalls, crickets, mountains, trees, black bears (didn't see any, but aparently they are there). Racoons. (all deid)
It was beautiful - (extras) - peaceful, and calming, and amazing. You can see for miles.
It was also very hot.
Because we kept stopping I think the drive took us over 4 hours, but I can't be sure - I can't be sure of anything - I'm writing this up 6 days later and I can't remember one day from the next.
We stopped at a little place called Low Moore - a little travelodge for Truckers - complete with an All American Diner. We ate hungrily on Fried Chicken (What do the American's do with Fried Chicken to make it so bloody tasty?)
The room was basic, but comfortable, but I had a shitty nights sleep and woke up feeling like bowf. I nearly threw up - but a quick breakfast of coffee and pancakes soon had me feeling like new.
