Maidens moonlight
The Maiden's Tower on the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey.
There are many legends about the construction of the tower. The most popular is an emperor had a much beloved daughter and one day, he dreamed that she would be killed by a venomous snake on her 18th birthday. The emperor, in an effort to stop his daughter's early demise by placing her away from land so as to keep her away from any snakes, so he had the tower built in the middle of the Bosphorus. The princess was placed in the tower, where she was frequently visited only by her father.
On the 18th birthday of the princess, the emperor brought her a basket of exotic fruits as a birthday gift but the basket, however snake was hiding in the basket and bit the young princess and she died in her father's arms, just as the dream had predicted. This story was beautifully told by our Turkish host on a private boat that had been hired to give us a tour and lovely on board meal.
All was well accept the weather which was cold, windy and raining. We stayed on the lowered covered deck
