If you can't beat them...

Sarracennia Flower

A year or two ago we decided to have a go at growing insectivorous plants.  The Dionaea muscipula (Venus Flytrap) didn't survive more than a few months and no we didn't poke it to death with our fingers to see it close!

However the Sarracennia (unfortunately they never seem to give a species name to garden centre Sarracennias) is thriving.   As with all insectivorous plants it is given nothing but rain water.  After all they come from boggy conditions where there are few nutrients hence the need to catch flies.  The chemical in tap water "burn" the roots so again the need for rain water.

The Sarracennia is almost constantly in flower for us.  OK not constantly but certainly an awful lot.  Currently it has this flower and another just opening.  I haven't removed dead flowers and there are 5 still on it.
