Tortoiseshell Butterfly
Such a lovely day for sitting out in the garden reading books, chatting about cameras and generally doing not very much! Feels like every day has been busy recently, and even yesterday's smashing zoo trip was followed by an evening's presentation and update on Mission Lifeforce and environmental activism.
How sad to note that on the same day, and five years after participating in The Warrior's Call inaugural rite at Glastonbury which also took place at many other sites around the world, four peaceful protestors were sentenced, three with jail time, for their activist work against the fracking industry.
Most sad that in modern Britain, peaceful non-violent dissent is now a crime that attracts the heaviest penalties, just as we celebrate one hundred years of female suffrage in the UK. That of course came out of similar protests - and not all of them were non-violent by any means.
We humans may survive into the future and commemorate the actions of these earth protectors in the same way. I wonder, by then, whether we will still have butterflies.
