Identity Crisis
I have a 'Before' name, and an 'After' name.
The Govt. tax office and the HR dept at the company for whom I now work have accepted my 'After' name.
The Govt. passport office, my bank, and the IT dept at the company for whom I now work are lagging behind.
And this means that although I have no personal crisis of identity, I am forced to live with two different names, and that makes proof of ID a bit tricky. For the time being.
If you have never changed your name you will have absolutely no idea what a complete PitA this is.
Tidying up all the loose ends will probably take longer than an entire human gestation period and will have a less significant end product.
(Go figure Govt Depts! You can register the birth of a brand new human being without having previously notified relevant authorities about a pregnancy condition. But an adult woman has to jump through myriad hoops to renounce her husband's father's family name. Preposterous!)
Be that as it may, I arrived on my own front doorstep at exactly the same moment that my final delivery arrived. I asked if it was my specified mattress for my specified address to my specified name, even before the van doors were opened to reveal the size of the package. The driver was still a little hesitant about handing it over without any ID, but if I were really clairvoyant, I could probably have cooked up some fake ID to boot. I had no ID, which a clairvoyant would have cleverly provided, and therefore I must be the correct recipient with or without ID. Thank you! :-)
Up the two flights of stairs with my final package and I got to meet the card-sending neighbourly neighbour :-) Very neighbourly! I am even told I can piggy-back on their broadband if I can't get my own sorted by Sunday tea-time. And my mail was delivered from below :-)
I'm feeling a lot more settled than I was this time yesterday despite having exactly the same hurdles yet to face.
The only difference has been complete strangers taking me at face value.
