Staffordshire WoWo

You wouldn't send a dog out in these conditions and no way am I going out to take a blip!! What a night- thunder, lightening, Biblical proportions of rain, and gales. It's not much better today though things eased off a litttle at 12.45 and we threw the kids out in the yard. It's now gusting up again. I was going to take some blips of the whooper swans that have just arrived but it was Arctic down at the lake. Instead you have one of the Staffordshire dogs (for some unknown reason called Staffordshire WoWos in my family) that I originally gave my mother and held on to after she died. Himself isn't a great fan of them and they're banished upstairs to the landing, but I rather like them. Staffordshire figures were very popular in the 19C and came in all shapes and sizes, mostly rather naive and rustic. They are made from porcelain and rather crudely painted. Dogs were very popular, especially these King Charles Spaniels. You would place one on each end of your mantlepiece and admire. I hope that's not dust I can see on his nose- surely not.
