Little Egret at Dusk
At the end of this afternoon this egret joined a large group of cattle egrets in a set of trees next to an extensive marsh in El Rocío, where they presumably roost for the night. There were several dozen cattle egrets, but this was the only little egret we saw.
We had joined our birding tour in Seville at noon, and driven south to the Doñana National Park. After a picnic lunch on the way we arrived at our hotel in El Rocío, which is on the edge of an extensive series of marshes. We'll be based here for the next few days. The Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)is a European bird, very similar to the Snowy Egret found in North America.
