OMG…
Take the suitcase – I’ll swim across!
I had booked on an all-inclusive bird tour trip to the Scilly Isles and left everything up to the organiser. It wasn’t until shortly before the start of the trip, that I got an indication that we were flying from Land’s End. I’d never been to the Scilly Isles before and assumed that it was a sail.
I’m not frightened of flying on big aircraft such as jumbo jets (last time was over 20 years ago), but I hadn’t flown on a light aircraft before (ours was the plane on the left of the shot). I sat right at the front so that I could see and keep my eye on the pilots. Obviously, I have no idea how to fly a plane, but I can tell whether people are concentrating or not! Gosh, it was noisy.
We arrived on St Mary’s late afternoon / early evening and after transportation to the digs and dropping off our cases, we walked round the headland. We were a small group of 5 plus the organiser. Whilst out, we spotted a tawny pipit and an ortolan bunting. One of the group took her camera and got a shot of sorts, but as the light was beginning to fail, I hadn’t bothered to unpack my dslr camera and lens. I wanted a nice relaxing walk to recover from the flight. The bunting was happy to forage around our feet, which could have been a terrible mistake because the French eat them – or at least they did. I am not sure whether this is still the case.
