And I'm Getting Blown Away

It was with some intrepidation we left Charlotte and headed for Wilmington.

Wilmington became Boy's new home town a couple of years ago - just after we left him the last time.   He even has a Mum and Dad there.  G and S - whom he married two years ago.    He has been super keen to show us round his home town and let us see why he loves it so much.

Wilmington was hit by Hurricane Florence on 14th September.  The day before we arrived in Washington.   It wasn't a 4 or a 5  - in fact by the time it made land - it had been marked down to a Category 1.

However, - when we spoke to our Air B&B Hosts  - they advised that their seconday house on the plot had been hit and was uninhabitable - no one was injured - most people had evactuated.  However, there was no power in Wilmingotn and we promised to keep in touch and he would let us know the position nearer the time.

He had called me the Day before (Thursday) to let me know that the power had come on, and no one homeless needed their accommodation.

With wonder we drove through the streets of Wilmington and looked aghast as we looked at all of the fallen trees, and the damage to roofs, and the floods everywhere.

We turned into the street we were booked on.  - Sidewalks were completly covered by the trees. - The house directly across from us was badly damaged the roof had been hit by a falling tree  - and indeedy the house at the back was minus a lump of roof - the HVAC unit had been destroyed.  All the fences were gone - and there were roots of massive trees laying on their side.

The speed at which trunks have been chopped up and stacked has amazed us both -and the fact that everyone has been returning to damaged houses and flooded work places, with the minimum of fuss.   Astonishing.

We were delighted to find the house - just as described - in fact it was even better. Very beautiful. Very perfectly designed inside.  - And really big!

We  grabbed a cooked chicken and salad from the supermarket, and had an early night

:-)
