Liverpool Giants
We were orienteering at Liverpool University this morning and then went into town to try and see the giants. The orienteering was good as Liverpool University is quite complex and ideal for the 2 sprint races we did. We had travelled to town by train and were lucky to get on at Ainsdale as it was absolutely rammed by the time we reached the centre. It was estimated that more than a million people were in the city for the occasion and we were late there as the orienteering went on to the afternoon. We attempted to out flank it and had some good views albeit with cluttered backgrounds. Being French the parade was anarchic (and all the better for that), and unintelligible. The streets were absolutely packed, there was a great atmosphere and the litter bins couldn’t cope; I enjoyed it. The blip was taken at a point when the giant was looking at the camera and had nothing behind it. The extras are 3 other Liverpool giants, the Metropolitan Cathedral, models of the Liver birds and a vaguely lifelike sculpture of a well-known pop group.
