Blickling Hall

"'Classic.' A book which people praise and don't read."
Mark Twain

Seems like a theme developing, after our visit to Katharine of Aragon yesterday I find we're unexpectedly visiting another of Henry's loves, Ann Boleyn. Blickling Hall is built on the ruins of the old Boleyn property in Norfolk and after a fascinating introduction by a local volunteer there's an even more interesting art installation inside. The theme is  'The Word Defiant', created by Theatre Company Les Enfants Terribles and focusing on Blickling's library and the importance of books,. Apparently some thought it 'terrible', I thought it superb; from the charred remains of burnt books in the cellars through the bath full of books upstairs to the waterfall of books cascading off the library shelves it was really thought provoking - and it's still on although it finishes the end of October.A brief return visit to Felbrigg where I left my backpack in a locker yesterday and we resume our journey westward ho!, well westerly anyway. We're staying near Peterborough again tonight to break the return journey so a visit to Sandringham is sort of midpoint and it's only a few miles off our path. A very helpful receptionist suggests a route around to make the most of our couple of hours visit, beginning at the church with its' richly decorated interior and ending in the museum, so we follow his suggestion and it works out perfectly.
