"Black Friday" Shopping
Not for me the crowds in the big box stores or Bellis Fair Mall -- I headed out this afternoon for the Fairhaven Holiday Festival Opening & Art Walk, where I could "Experience Black Friday 1890's style amidst Fairhaven's 100-year-old buildings and streets, all decorated for the weekend and the entire holiday season."
Despite the great appeal of the Purple Smiles wine shop next door to the Fairhaven Toy Garden, I followed the little gnome's pointing wheelbarrow and went into the Fairhaven Toy Garden, where I've bought gifts for babies and children since we moved here almost 11 years ago. The toys they carry are well-made, classic, and foster imagination and creativity -- and I've even bought a few for myself!
I enjoyed having a good look around and seeing the reactions of the children, parents, and grandparents filling the store -- and I found appealing gifts for two dear children on my list, which made for a totally satisfying visit.
Since the toy store is kitty-corner to Village Books, my #1 favorite store, I had to go in there as well! There were more people than I'd ever seen before in Village Books, which made me smile with delight. I bought a few more winter holiday gifts there, and will go back soon to purchase books for their 17th annual Giving Tree. Last year, more than 2000 area children in need were provided with new books purchased by Village Books customers, who receive a 20% discount on books going to the Giving Tree. It's a win-win for everyone, and one of our favorite holiday traditions.
(I succumbed to one Dramatic Tone image this afternoon... I'm hooked!)
