Duckling

A mega cute duckling at Sanctuary Ponds and the only one left. The last time I was there, I saw a family of 5 ducklings and another family of two.  Today there was only one little one.

The water was so clear we could see it's little feet paddling away under the surface. It was good to see that it was being well guarded by  a Mum and 2 drakes.

This pond is on the circuit of a pair of hawks plus, Pukeko have been known to kill ducklings. I can only surmise that the other ducklings have met their end as prey.
