Birthday boy

Windy and hot today - reaching 26C - just not natural for mid-October! 

I went for a walk round Castor Hanglands in the early afternoon and watched bees, wasps and parasitic wasps all nectaring on the last of the angelica and devil's-bit scabious flowers. There were also plenty of hornets still buzzing around, though they seemed a bit half-hearted about it.

Late afternoon was spent cooking several Flammkuchen - a speciality of Alsace which Ben and Alex were introduced to when they visited Cologne.It consists of a thin bread base topped with creme fraiche, onions, bacon pieces and cheese. Hopefully this should provide a solid base for an evening celebrating Alex's 25th birthday in the pubs and clubs of the city!
