not Mel Gibson...

up at 3.45 am to get John to the airport for a 6.30 flight. I was home by 6am, and it still felt like the middle of the night, so I went back to bed for a couple of hours.

been out this afternoon taking a few shots for a flickr challenge of 'Statues and Monuments'. we don't have many in Lanark, only the monument to the first air show in Lanark, that I blipped on 15 July, and this bizarre statue of William Wallace that adorns the front of the church at the bottom of the High Street. The church is pretty ancient but the statue was donated to the Royal Burgh of Lanark by a local sculptor, William Forrest, in 1822. He apparently based his statue on an ancient drawing in the possession of the Society of Antiquities, but it is nothing like any other image of Wallace and certainly nothing like Braveheart!

He looks as if he is winking
He looks like he is wearing a hard hat with a bird sitting on it
He is wearing a frilly mini-kilt
and sturdy doc Martens

and of course he is at present decked out with Christmas lights!

quiet night on my own tonight. still working on OU stuff, trying to learn Lightroom. nice hot bath, bit of TV, glass of wine, not necessarily in that order.

hope everyone has a good Sunday tomorrow.
