Wednesday...

Wednesday routine....coffee and newspapers in the Royal Scots Club, and then Rotary lunch at the Charwood.

The plaque is at the door of the Club on Abercromby Place.   Mair was the great-granddaughter of the celebrated actress, Sarah Siddons.   Her life was spent in supporting the cause of equality for women in society (just as well that the club is dual gender.)    Her particular influence was in access for women to university places.   And she founded and was a governor of St George's School for girls.

At Rotary, (extra) this is Stewart describing a wonderful holiday visiting unpopulated islands in the Hebrides.   Behind him, the image is of Mingulay, twelve miles south of Barra, which was abandoned by the Gaelic speaking residents in 1912. The ruined cottage was one of those left behind.

Today it is the home of important seabird colonies.
